                Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are x-rays harmful?

There are minimal risks involved with the use of radiation.  This risk, of course, varies depending upon the number of procedures one may undergo throughout one's lifetime.  Radiology examinations are performed to gain valuable medical information.  Your physician will order an x-ray when he or she feels that the information gained outweigh the minimal risk involved.

  • Do I need an appointment to have an x-ray?

Appointments are required for Cat Scans, Mammograms, MRI's, Ultrasounds, Barium Enemas, Upper GI's, IVP's or other fluoroscopy procedures.  Routine x-rays do not require an appointment.  It is recommended to have routine examinations performed during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Limited personnel are utilized after normal business hours, therefore enhancing the possibility of longer waiting times for routine procedures.

  • I need my x-rays for an appointment with a specialist.  How do I access my tests?

Please call 756-6546 at least 24 hours in advance to arrange for the pickup of your x-rays.  The information needed to check out your films is as follows:

Physician name, address and phone number that you are going to see.  This information is needed so that we may keep a record of where your exams are in case they are needed for future comparison.

  • I have children.  May I leave them in the waiting room and have the staff supervise them?

Unfortunately, no.  The staff are occupied doing their jobs and cannot provide adequate supervision.  Children un 12 years of age cannot be left alone in the waiting room.

  • What should I expect for the procedure I am having done?

Your physician should explain to you the procedure you are having and why you are having it.  Prior to your exam, the x-ray technologist will also explain the procedure.  Please follow the links on the radiology home page for a brief explanation of some of the procedures we perform.
